The "NO SPAM ZONE!"
Listed below are few of the many common website promotion
"Spamming" techniques some sites employ to boost their website promotion
efforts, and which Submit Away! frowns upon. If you are promoting your website
yourself, be very wary of these pitfalls. Be aware, we take a very conservative view
on "Spamming". Some of these techiques may be considered legitamite in certain
circles. We list them here because at least one (if not more) of the top search
engines have targeted this website promotion methods as Spam.
- Creation of numerous sub promotion or
"doorway" pages which simlly point back to the main site*
- Visible text keyword stacking
- Invisible or "same color as background" keyword
stacking**
- Use of unrelated keywords
- Use of invisible or unseen hyperlinks
- Extremely long Title or description tags.
- Duplication of Title or description tags
- Keyword stacking in "Alt Image" Tags
- Creation of "Phantom Pixel" images for keyword
"Alt Image" tags
All of these website promotion "Cheats" or
"Tricks" are simply a few of the techniques which are collectively referred to
by search engines as "Spamming".
Any one of these used in your website promotion efforts
could forever condemn it to the backwaters of the web. Read what Alta Vista and Webcrawler have to say
about sites that they catch utilizing these promotion techniques. They have special
"Anti-Spam" software specifically designed to root out these sites. And Yahoo. Forget about them. Each site submitted
to Yahoo is manually verified by a human to
ensure it is "Spam" free. Your site may never even get listed with them. It's
just not worth it.
It is okay to have one "Front Door" page
for asthetics (ie; a large graphic or image which looks cool and you want people to
see it but it will unnecessarily slow things down once inside the site). This will also of
course aid in the website promotion, but don't over do it!
**Invisible
HTML "COMMENTS" tags are fine, just don't load them up with promotional
keywords. Keep them short and sweet. Do not "Stack" keywords in
them and never use "same color as background text" to increase the word
destiny.
